David Hirst of Show Business Weekly says: I resisted
going to see Lovely when it first appeared downtown and now I'm kicking myself for not seeing it sooner. The story of cabaret
superstar "Dar" (Kelly Briggs) and her friend and former co-superstar "Christy Vann de Camp" (Jerry Christakos),
Lovely is a silly, bitchy, backstage send-up with two tremendously talented guys dressed to the nines in drag the Gabor sisters
would fight over. Even though they've strung together classic numbers like "Sisters" ( White Christmas), "Think
Pink" and "On How To Be Lovely" (both from the film of Funny Face) as well as duets associated with Judy &
Barbra and now the Hilton sisters (Side Show), Briggs and Christakos are refreshingly funny and eminently entertaining. The
pacing is brisk and musical director John McMahon does a terrific job keeping the whole thing moving. Delightfully, Lovely
is way above the usual downtown drag-fare with Briggs & Christakos treating their material as a legitimate theater-piece.
Coincidentally, if Paula Prentiss and Suzanne Pleshette have been looking for something to tour in, they can look no longer.
Lovely is just the ticket. website: www.areyoulovely.com
